A few words about the 1st Mate... The 1st Mate is there not only to assist in typical vessel management duties, but also to assist you in getting more fish in the net! Unlike many other Lake Erie Walleye Charters, we DO NOT want to "do it all for you," we want to demonstrate and educate you on the methods we use to catch more fish! We will be close by to provide support and guidance. Consistently catching limits of Lake Erie Walleye is a team effort! The 1st Mate will ensure that YOU are properly setting up the equipment, monitoring the rods, hooking the fish, and getting them to the net. The Captain's job is to locate the fish, and keep the vessel on the fish, all while ensuring a completely safe environment for the vessel and passengers. The 1st Mate arrives early to make sure the boat and equipment are ready for the day, and is on the boat long after each trip to make sure everything is clean and ready for the next crew. The Mate typically puts in 12 or more hours in order to provide the best possible experience for the customers. The 1st Mate works for tips only, which is typically 15-25% of the trip cost. Gratuities are highly appreciated!
